Want to get into the storytelling scene, but you’re not sure where to start? Or maybe you’re a veteran on every storytelling stage in Chicago, but you want to freshen up your methods or explore something new. 2016 is your year to make it happen!
There are a myriad of storytelling classes and workshops offered throughout Chicago. Here are a few for you to check out as part of your New Year’s resolution to improve your storytelling skills:
Bonus points: several of their classes and workshops are currently on sale. Get them while they’re hot!
Workshops and classes include courses for professional development in the office, a customized 2-3 hour-long workshop tailored to address your personal needs, or a day-long storytelling retreat to remind you why you’re passionate about this art form. There’s even a quick 20-minute phone conversation workshop option to help get even the most experienced storytellers “unstuck” and past their writer’s block.
The great thing about Story Grower’s class and workshop selection is that there’s something for everybody, and for storytellers with different backgrounds, needs, and skill levels. This helps prevent the “I’ve-heard-this-all-before” disappointments for more experienced students, but also offers real storytelling help for new students and people who just want to get better at communicating in their everyday lives.
2nd Story has a constant influx of upcoming classes and workshops, so you never have to wait long to jump in and get started. The first 3-hour workshop of 2016 starts January 9th, so get signed up pronto!
You can take a full two-day intensive if you’re ready to immerse yourself in your writing and performance, or just dip your toes in the water with a few hours spent in a small group of storytellers with plenty of one-on-one feedback. You can take a six-week course if you’re in it for the long haul and want a more lasting storytelling training program.
Classes are small and affordable, so you can dig into the art of storytelling with real results.
This Much Is True
This Much Is True has their upcoming four-week, three-hour class coming up this new year. It’s set in an instructor’s home on the North Side, and it’s limited to a small number of participants, so you get a comfortable, intimate storytelling experience that’s truly one-of-a-kind.
It’s open to storytelling students of all ages and experience levels, because individual milestones are customized to suit your needs.
The Vocallo Storytelling Workshop starts up early in January of 2016, so get signed up ASAP. They aim to connect with younger, culturally diverse audiences through music and stories. You’ll learn how to communicate with people at a real level.
If you’re 18-34 and have an interest in incorporating music as part of your storytelling, this is the Chicago workshop for you in 2016.
